Finger Food

Dear Alisa and Gina,

My husband and I were having dinner at our favorite local restaurant last week. We love this place and the owner knows us. Our waiter (a new person) brought my meal with his thumb on the plate – touching the food. Yuck. I sent the meal back – and I told the owner what had happened. My husband thinks I was overreacting – and now he’s too embarrassed to go back. Should I have said something? – Grossed Out

Get your husband over here. Read this out loud to him. “Yes, she should have said something. Believe me, the owner, your friend, needs to know this, and would much rather hear it from you than some stranger, or worse, read about it in the Restaurant Review section of the paper, or heaven forbid, Zagat’s. Your wife did the right thing. Now give her a hug and take her out to dinner.” ~ Gina

I think you were absolutely accurate and brave. When you see something that’s wrong you need to speak up. And really you did the owner,  your friend a favor by providing timely feedback in the moment. If you hadn’t spoken up, would you be able to consider eating there again? ~ Alisa
