Dear Alisa and Gina,
A few weeks ago my supervisor mentioned to me that I was due for a promotion. I was glad she said something because I’ve been with the company for more than a year now. She said he would get back to me – but hasn’t yet. The economy is bad so I don’t want to rock the boat, but I don’t want to miss out on a raise/promotion because she forgot. What should I do, if anything. ~ Working Stiff
Put a tip jar on your desk. That should remind her. ~ Gina
Next conversation you have with your supervisor, find out what’s going on. You can just say you are curious about the last conversation you had. The key here is to engage in a conversation that allows for open exchange – can you bring up the topic without demands or recriminations? If not, then wait until you can. ~ Alisa
