Dear Alisa and Gina,
I was recently in the home of a good friend who had spent many weeks living in our home and finally, after a long search, found a place of his own. We’re getting a tour of his small apartment and there on his bed is the afghan my Aunt Sonia crocheted fifty years ago. I was stunned and really speechless for a moment. I realized I needed to speak up quickly – or forever lose my chance. So I asked him if it was from our house. Oh, yes, he said, would you like it back?
I’m glad I spoke up but I’m also still surprised. Should I ask any more questions? ~ Not-Happy Niece
I applaud you for your self awareness and for asking the question in the moment. I suggest you let the situation go – you have your afghan back and there really isn’t any reason to continue to discuss the issue, is there? ~ Alisa
Yeah – that was kinda low. Did he think you wouldn’t notice? I agree with Alisa – since you got the afghan back, you should forgive and forget. (I hope he at least apologized profusely.) But the next time you’re at his apartment, make sure you leave your purse locked in the car. ~ Gina
